There is no such thing in BDSM as "all or nothing." Everyone can make their own limits and stick to them.
If you want to start light, try silk scarves or ties to keep your hands bound, as they are soft against the skin. Keep something sharp nearby, though, in case they tighten or become hard to untie. If anything starts to tingle or go numb, stop immediately and get loose.
Spanking is another form of play that's not only quite common, but reasonably safe, as the fleshy parts of the bottom can take quite a lot of punishment without any long term injury. I'd be more than happy to introduce you to the art if you live close enough to me, and are at least 18 years of age. ;)
Contrary to the two previous answers to mine, do NOT engage in choking or any other form of breathplay. Breathplay is a form of edgeplay, making it the hardcore side of BDSM, which you already stated is not your interest. Choking is VERY dangerous and there's no known way to minimize that risk as there is with other forms of BDSM. You should never mess with your brain's oxygen supply, no matter what "rush" you supposedly get from it. Unless you want to put your life and wellbeing in the hands of someone else, do not allow anyone to choke you, EVER!

Sure there is. You don't have to use chains and handcuffs, and even if you do tie your lover up or let yourself be tied up it doesn't mean you have to be whipped, beaten, etc. You can just restrain each other and try sexual but not necessarily painful things that you wouldn't normally try. Not only can you use things like silk scarves (which are a lot less rough on wrists, ankles, etc.) you can buy other types of restraints from places like Adam and Eve or other "sex toy supply stores" that are very easy to get out of, just in case you get uncomfortable. Another thing you may want to try is just letting your guy grab hold of your wrists while you're having sex, just to see if being in a restrained, somewhat "helpless" state makes you uncomfortable. If you're OK with that, step up to the silk scarves or comfy, easy-to-escape-from restraints.

Look for a partner you can be open with and explain what you want. Let him know what your boundaries are and stick to them. Nothing is ever all or nothing. If you are open and willing to try new things your partner will be as excited about exploring them as you are.

Something only you and your partner should decide on. There is no all or nothing...you do what you BOTH are comfortable with.

not problem with it at all. I use handcuffs with my wife from time to time. She hates it when I forget the key.
