As others have suggested, the best thing to do is practice by doing a lot of questions, and asking question to your teacher. Try to make it such that you're not asking, "How do I do this?" but more like, "How do I do this? I tried this step, but got nowhere."

One other good way to improve your mathematics is to teach someone. Believe it or not, once you understand the material yourself, show someone else how to solve it. You'd be surprised how much better you understand the problem when helping someone out.

The only way to get better is to do some. Grab an excercise book, and a basic maths book. Sit yourself down and do every problem in the book. If you can't do them, post a question here, and someone will explain it to you.
