Your question is kinda vague...do you mean where an American could be murdered? If so...I don't think that you are more likely to be murdered in a South American country than you would be in say New York, LA, or New Orleans...the most likely situation would be that you would be kidnapped or robbed...but the robbing thing happens here in the US just as much...I have been to most South American countries and it all depends on where you are at...In Colombia, spelled with an O not a U, Bogota and the major cities are fairly safe...large military and police presents in Bogota...but if you go to the country side where the FARC and the Paramilitaries are you might be kidnapped...but it would depend on who you are, and if you are worth anything...but the embassy will tell you where not to go...in my opinion the most dangerous place in South America now would be Venezuela, especially with all the Anti-American statements Chavez makes...I wonder why Cindy Sheehan likes him so much? Second would be Rio...lots of poverty...more likely to be robbed there...I've been to Colombia many, many times and it is not as bad as people let on...honestly New Orelans is worse...some one picked my pocket there a few years ago...I feel more uneasy in New Orleans and Atlanta than I did in Bogota...oh yea the women are better looking in South America too...lol

Columbia or parts of Brazil (Rio, for example) are the most dangerous. Venezuela is fairly safe. Chile and Argentina are safe.
