I recently purchased a home with approximately 9 acres of cleared land. There are two fairly steep areas, strenuous to walk up, but still grassy. Is a 60 inch cutting deck sufficient?

Yes. 60 inches is okay for that. DO you want a zero turn mower or a walk behind? The zero turn will be hard to run on the hills and may be unsafe. The walk behind is safer on the hills and may need a sulky to ride on as walking behind that is long. 60 inches should be able to mow that in a few hours. A 72 inch mower can do an acre in 15 minutes. 60 inches maybe 20 minutes an acre. How much time do you have on your hands? Plus all of these mowers will be in the 8-9000 dollar range....

I mow 2 acres with a 42" mower. It takes me about 6 hours, but then I enjoy the time on the 'range'. I would guess that a 60" is a little small if you don't like being out there.
Is your tractor powerful enough to pull a 'gang mower'? Those rigs can get pretty wide..it's the kind of thing that is used on sports fields and golf courses.
Another consideration would be one of the very fast zero-turn rigs. They are expensive and difficult to learn, but do a great job once you get to be able to drive it.

Have you ever asked yourself why you need to clear all 9 acres everytime you cut. You sound like a slave to your 9 acres! I suggest you get something more satisfying in your life then mowing the lawn!

I'm a salesman at a Simplicity and Deines Lawnmower Dealership in Ohio. Sure 60" is great if you plan on mowing all day long. something that large you will want a 72" deck. www.marty-j.com www.simplicitymfg.com or email me

I would suggest a couple of goats and be done with it... you can sit on your deck sipping cocktails and watch the goats eat the grass! CHEERS!
