It is a cream coloured Gas coat, which is like a duvet!! It's that thick and puffy, and it's full of feathers. So how ON EARTH do I go about washing it, as I am sure it can't just be chucked in the washing machine?

You can wash it in the machine - in fact, I had a duck down duvet that needed cleaning, and the dry cleaners said they would only wash it in a machine, not dry clean as the feathers can retain some of the chemicals used and the fumes are very dangerous. With that in mind I threw caution to the wind and washed it. The most important factor is to make sure you tumble it until it is bone dry and the feathers will not stick together. Hey presto, lovely fragrant, clean coat.

Follow the instructions on the tag. I'll bet it only says Dry Clean Only. However, I have come to the conclusion that you can wash it in cold water on a delicate setting and if you stick it in the dryer don't do it on a high setting, don't use fabric softener and take it out right away.

You can't wash it. Don't even try to spot clean it with a sponge or anything like that. Take it straight to the nearest dry cleaner. any dry cleaner can clean any kind of down comforter or coat.

How did you get duck down in it? Were you drunk in a Chinese restaurant? I think your only hope is to unstitch it at the bottom and take the strips of meat out that way. They might not still be fit for consumption but if they are heat them up with a little plum sauce.

I don't know but beware. I had a gorgeous blue 'northface' gillet and it was full of feathers. I couldn't be arsed going to the dryclaners and the tag said i could wash at 30 degrees.
I've never been able to wear it since as all the feathers have stuck together and no matter how i try i can't get it back to how it was.

Please don't act on my advice but I have a duck feather duvet. I wash it by putting it in the bath with hot water and a small amount of bleach and I let it soak for a bit then I get in there and swish and knead with my hands a bit, rinse and dry over the line. I have never had any problems with this method.

Well I had one once and I tossed it in the machine on cold water wash. Drying though you shake it really good because the feathers get heavy and clump. Set the dryer on low heat and throw in trainers (hopefully clean ones, or tennis balls) this will help to fluff it back up. Be patient with it though because you will have to reset the dryer a few (lol quite a few) times in order to get it thoroughly dry.

Ask a professional dry cleaner. I wouldn't risk it in the wash.
