My kitchen sinks will drain slowly for a week, then seem to drain properly for a period of time, and then drain slowly again for another period of time. At the same time, other sinks in the house on the same floor level drain properly. What could it be?

Most likely, you have an item in your drain trap. I'm assuming that you've already tried a drain cleaner and it diddn't solve the problem. There's something down there that gets in the way and then falls out of the way of the waste water. Just removethe trap and clean it out, then you should be golden.

If you determine you have something stuck in there and get it out, start a monthly ritual of baking soda and vinegar. Put about 1/4 cup soda down the drain followed by 1/4 cup vinegar and quickly cover the drain with a rag so the foaming goes down the drain and not into the sink. This will keep it clear and fresh. We have plastic plumbing and our own septic system and have never had a problem.

Could it be that someone is putting bacon grease, or chicken fat down the sink every two weeks? Then after one week, the grease washes away, and you have a normal drain.
Then...the "chef" puts more grease in there and is too afraid to admit it to you? Hmmmm?

Just give me a thumbs down if you can rule this OUT. OK?

You might have an alligator living in your drain pipe. Try to coax him out with some hamburger and then whack him on the nose and call the zoo.
