Can anyone offer any knowledge of a criminology theory like labelling or anomie to explain the crime of child abuse. The concentration needs to be how well or not the theory explains child abuse. Even if you do not know the answer any sources you may have seen that may help me with this question would be appreciated. Additionally, references would be ideal

Hello, I did criminology as a degree. Anomie is the social breakdown of morals and values. It does not refer to an individual criminal, but a society at large. It is used by Merton to support his 'strain theory' (a key theory in criminology) to explain why people who lack social status, material wealth, human support are more prone to commit crimes.
In one of my essays, I used strain theory and anomie to explain why people percieve black people to commit more crimes - it isn't because of their race, but rather that due to historical oppression, they have lived under anomie. Anyone who lives in this position is more prone to criminality, black or white.
I can't really explain a link between anomie and child abuse, apart from its link with a lack of societal values (the micro-society in which the abuser inhabits, not the whole of society).
You need to read the Oxford Handbook of Criminology, and then read books that have been cited in it.

Is this for you class? You need to do the research yourself. That is what learning is all about. It teaches you to think and asking others to do this for you is negating that.
