Because all of the fat cat wealthy insurance companies who dictate what type of health care we should have would lose out, as well as the pharmaceutical companies who set the prices and also control the government would have their lucrative deals limited...the stockholders would have to suffer. Can't have that. They don't want people to be healthy on their dime. They would be happy if we didn't have to take care of the poor, sick, infirm, elderly, handicapped or mentally retarded. Health insurance is getting more and more limited...really, even if you have dental insurance, how many people can afford to go to the dentist? You have to take out a loan to get your teeth taken care of.
The bottom line is the rich don't want to give up anything to benefit anyone but themselves. They want the middle class (what's left of it) to continue to pay for gov't programs and to pay for the military which takes care of their best interests in foreign countries. Don't look to see anything like that to happen anytime soon.

"National Health Insurance" is socialism at its worst. It assures that government has control over your health, and that government bureaucrats decide who gets what type of treatment and when. It treats health care professionals who are the best and brightest, as nothing more than civil servants. It will put Doctors, Nurses, and Pharmacists under control of the federal government employees unions, which means it will be almost impossible to get rid of the bad apples. It will kill off any innovation. The private sector has been overwhelmingly more successful in coming up with new treatments, drugs, devices, and surgeries. Why would anyone want to remove the greatest motivator (sorry libs, but has and always will be profit) that drives people to invent new things.

I figure if our tax dollars are paying for all the elected official's health benefits,we are just as deserving of the same benefits.I would not, however trust the government to administer it without screwing it up...

because in many cases, insurance companies decide what they are going to pay for services, just like the government does.
if everyone is covered by a universal healthcare package, the healthcare provider won't be able to bump the price up every week.
some folks claim it to be socialism, but taxing people to give the money to healthcare providers isn't??!!

Cost in tax dollars.
Wealth redistribution.
Who's going to pay for it?
Does it include illegal aliens?
Will people have to pay premiums and deductibles for it? Or are we going to force the rich and businesses to pay for it?
