I think the wost punishments are where the convicted watches his progeny killed in front of him or her. As in the Bible where the deposed King watches his sons killed before him as they put out his eyes, so the killing of his sons was the last thing he saw. This is also why genocide and holocausts are so terrible. the young die and the able can do nothing to protect them. Boadicea of the Iceni used her wrath from public humiliation by the Romans raping her daughters and scourging her in public to inflict a revenge of death an destruction, but this soon ended and legend has it that she took the lives of her daughters and herself rather than be tortured and humiliated again.

Have to admit Hanging, Drawing and Quartering was pretty bad because as well as the physical pain there was the terrible psychological trauma of knowing Humpty (you) are not going to get back together again.

I heard of a guy that got locked in a room with Rosie for 4 days.

Actually, some of the drunk driving penalties are tough in other countries. There is one that arrests the man's wife for five years if the man gets caught.

The death penalty is bad in AMerica because you sit on death row all of those years. Of course in some countries they cut your hands off for stealing. That would suck.

All of the old torture devises like the rack, etc. would have to qualify.

Hard to say.

France - guillotine
England - drawing and quartering
Rome - crucifixion
Inquisition - burning at the stake
Borneo - boiling alive

Man has come up with some truly horrific ways to dispatch those deemed worthy of death.

I know one culture where they used to take prisoners out to sea and drop them in the freezing cold sea and leave them there to drown and die.
