someone died in another state and i checked local obits from the city where he supposed died but did not find his anywhere is there a place i can go to on the internet to find out for sure

if you know the town where he's supposed to of died, what about the local town hall there? they would have records of births, marriages and deaths etc. type in the town name and look up town hall or something. otherwise you can access births, marriages and deaths on ancestry.com. good luck in your search!

You could check on the social security death index but, I think is may take a while for it to be posted there.
You only need the full name and date of birth and the city where the deceased lived at the time.
