Wear something dressy but not as if you're going to a cocktail party. A black skirt suit could be good with heels for evening and some jewelry for evening. You could wear a camisole under the jacket instead of a blouse to keep it from looking too daytime/corporate. Subtle bling is appropriate. Otherwise, consider a simple black wrap dress with a sexy-dressy heel. If you'd rather wear trousers, try a flowing, palazzo pant with a short cropped jacket. Again, kick the accessories up a notch for evening. Use a small handbag meant for evening and enhance your makeup with smoky eyeliner, etc. to create a polished evening ensemble.

It depends on the opera, and possibly what time it's being shown. If it's an evening gig, formal dress - dark suit or tux for men, elegant gown in a dark color for women. If it's earlier in the day, you could go a little more casual, but not much. Dress as you would for a nice dinner out, I think.

It depends where the opera is, what one is it, and how late in the run it is. Men should wear some kind of tuxedo or suit, women should wear either a dress or a pant suit. Usually dark colors are best.

For a lady an elegant dark dress, for a man a tux would be the way.

I think you should wear some black slacks with a really cute shirt and very cute high heels with a really cute purse. And a coat if it is really cold or something.

unless it's opening night at the Met, you risk looking ridiculous in a gown

one piece black dress, with blazer or jacket. more importantly, nice accessories, to go with shoes and purse. (shoe and purse are recommended to have same color)
pull up the hair as updo, with some hair clip on, and little red strick with decent make-up is excellent.
perfume is the must regardless.

nothing too fancy, but dont wear jeans. try a nice skirt or a cute dress. dont over do it.
