my friend says he's a tea boy - don't think it has anything to do with tea; he told me to look it up - anyone know?

I've been in IT for over 20 years and have never heard the term. Must be something new that someone made up.

Well i think What you are looking for is T-boy rather than tea-boy.

BTW tea boy is a cartoon character.
