His name was Goliath.
But he didn't actually fight David. David carried, and used, a sling. This was the ancient equivalent of the modern hunting rifle. Say Goliath had a four foot long sword (he didn't, bronze weapons broke if more than about half that long). He has to be within, say, 10-15 feet to rush David and have a chance to stick the sword in him or slice something off. David only had to come within 200-300 feet of Goliath to sling a 3-4# rock going 60mph at his head and slaughter him. Coming within 40-50 feet would make hitting him perhaps 2-3 times if necessary quite possible before Goliath could possibly get close enough to even rush him.
Not quite the unfair fight with Goliath as bully and God helping po' lil ol' David triumph. It's like he stood there and slaughtered a really nasty sheep. No risk at all to himself (exactly the only kind of fight to ever have!).
