As with all other vehicles, if you tow anything, you are restricted to 60mph and must not use the outside lane of a 3 or 4 lane motorway.

It really depends on where you are located. In the US they are classified as motorcycles (most states) and if they meet the requirements as a street legal motorcycle and are properly registered (and insured) then they are allowed on the street. 3 wheelers with smaller tires and engines may be classified as mopeds and not allowed on higher speed highways.
Since you used the term "motorway" I am assuming that you are NOT in the US.

yes the trike is allowed on a motorway but must be the right engine size which is 400cc and above if you live in england anyway

I once got a lift on a VW 1300cc trike from Hull to Edinburgh and we used the motorway no probs.

Here in NY State, "trikes" are allowed on all roadways so long as they are licensed and inspected just like any other motorcycle. I've seen some great custom-built trikes and they are great to look at. But I understand they are a bit unstable to ride. Is that true?
