Not only have we already lost this war, but where is the support for it in the US?

The notion of "winning" in Iraq is irrational if not absurd. There is a civil war going on of religious natureand the various fractions are vieing for power. Sunnis are fighting Shi'tes and the Shea are fighting among themselves. As in the Catholic-Protestant conflict which has taken centuries to quell and still going on in Ireland, it will take centuries for them to quiet down. In the meantime they will be killing oneanother untill another strongman -a Saddam-like character takes over. All we are doing there is making sure that the strongman will be OUR strongman so we can control the area and its oil.

Administrations should allow the military to fight the wars. This is what they are trained for. However every war or military engagement since Korea has had a political spin. Politicians ignore the recommendations of the Generals and impose unrealistic rules of engagement. When the situation becomes to damaging politically then they look for political solutions which further complicate the matter and result in compromises that are viewed as losses. Iraq is not lost and it will not be lost unless the mindset of people like yourself is allowed to prevail. War is not easy, war is not pretty, but once it is undertaken the only goal should be to win. You don't agree with Iraq, okay I can respect that, but constantly stating that we have lost, or will, just provides an incentive to the enemy to keep fighting. Remember wars are as much about propaganda and perception as they are about actual combat. Your position emboldens the enemy and denigrates our own forces. While I will not call you unAmerican for it, I do believe that you are unpatriotic. A true patriot believes first and foremost in the supemacy and ability of their country.

We have lost nothing, but some Americans will to fight and win. As for losing the war, I don't think that is a fair statement. We control the entire country. We have killed more than a hundred for every US soldier killed of the Islamic Militants, We have driven them out of most of Afghanistan and Iraq. We are chasing them around in Somalia, and they are hiding in caves and afraid to go in the open. Saying we lost would be like saying the French won their war with Hitler, because the French resistance kept fighting. (Where are those Frenchmen today?) Some of our people have become spoiled and unwilling to stay with anything that is hard or painful. If what we have done is losing and what they have accomplished is winning, I would hate to win. Caves are rather damp and uncomfortable for long stays!

As a vietnam veteran I am frustrated with the entire process, but I think that if we leave Iraq now, as losers, my 12 year old grandson may have to fight there again in a few years.

I support our troops --- but I don't support the fact that they're the ones who have to pick up the scraps that those in power leave behind.

the warriors job is to guard the iraqis. they could commence behaving like genuine infantrymen truly of cowards searching for his or her own hides. The type of useless infantrymen is immaterial. The type of useless iraqis notwithstanding bothers me.
