I want to cancel my AOL subscription 6 months early because they have been taken over by the Carphone Warehouse in the UK and I have heard about how much trouble some people have had accessing the internet through Talk Talk, but AOL refuse to let me cancel because they say "nothing will change." Any tips on how I can cancel without paying the charges?

Firstly, I use TalkTalk and the service is excellent. In the unlikely event of your having a problem you can email their Chief Exec.
Secondly, since you are trying to break a contract you need to read the terms of the contract to see what circumstances are available (from either party) to cancel, without charge, the contract early. Frankly, in my opinion, you don't stand a chance. Good luck.

You can't get out of a legal contract but I think you're missing the point.

I have had AOL for almost 10 years and never had any problems with the service. AOL can't afford to let their service slip, they are a massive outfit and offer the best service of any ISP I have had (and I've tried practically all of them).

At the moment, I have telewest/NTL broadband as part of a package and I STILL pay for AOL on top because it has never let me down unlike blueyonder. You'd be a fool to cancel it even if you could without penalty (which isn't the case)

You can't. You have a legally binding contract.

You have no grounds to cancel, there has been no change in your service, and 'hearsay' is not an excuse to cancel!

You either wait six months, or pay AOL the six months you would owe them.

Remember, if you refuse to pay, they simply stop your service and refuse to issue a MAC code so you are unable to get broadband from anywhere else.

You can cancel your direct debit then fight it out with them. The best course is to stick with Talk Talk until you have established for yourself how effective TT is. I have been with TT since August 2006 and have had no trouble at all with the Broadband. Added to that I get everything for £20 a month. They have proved to be great. The problems they had was not getting on to broadband once you were signed up. The problem was actually getting signed up and getting into their system. Once in, no problems.

Unfortunately, you will have to pay to leave early. That said, if you're happy with the service at the moment, it's probably worth sticking with them anyway. Fingers crossed they do not suddenly drop in quality for you!

Nope. The only way out is to pay the early termination fee.
