Alright seriously, I'm torturing myself with this and I need answers. Please don't answers this question unless you actually know what you're talking about. Are mirrors accurate? Do they show the real you, or do they alter your looks? Is it true flaurescent lighting ( like in public bathrooms and fitting rooms) makes you look worse? HELP

It's all perspective, from the lighting to what you are prepared to notice when you look in the mirror.

Lighting does affect our perception of what we see... just ask any professional photographer. There is a reason they set up their lights where they do! Lighting can be used to trick the eye... to make things look better or worse than it actually does. Fluorescent lighting doesn't do anyone any favours... it adds a sallowness to the skin, and, in my opinion makes everything look worse.

However... our mind does the same thing. Think of the pretty girl who is convinced that she is ugly. We may not see her that way... but she has convinced herself that there is nothing beautiful to see. In this way, mirrors are NOT accurate. What we see depends on what we are looking for.

Please stop torturing yourself. Please?!!! Mirrors are NOT a reflection of the 'real' you.

How do you see yourself in your own mind? that is the important thing.Mirrors work on prisms of light reflected into the human eye and signals from the brain show the reflection in your mind .Try to build up your self confidence ,try a new hair do ,buy some new clothes, treat yourself to something you have always wanted.Flourescent lighting is very damaging to the eyes, do not look directly in to them for to long .You could possibly have eye strain, Have an eye test ,and try a relaxing eye exercise .Lindsay.
