I believe that marriage is very worthwhile. I think of my wife hen I hear "marriage' and realize that I have committed my life to her and she to me. I have been married 20 years and I love her more today than the day I married her. Without those vows a couple has nothing legally to bind them together. Some say that it's just a piece of paper, but having experienced it these people don't know anything about how special it can be with the right person. It never has and never will be a waste of time. I'd do it all over again with my wife if I had to. For me, marriage works!

Legal obligation. I think marriage should be between 2 people and God and that is where the commitment should stay, not between 2 people, God and the government. Legalization of marriage came when the men would go off to wars, the women/daughters had no property rights, so for a man to marry a widow/daughter to inherit her property that she could do nothing with because she herself was seen as a piece of property a legal contract was drawn for all the property. People are typically unsatisfied in marriage. Divorces come with every other marriage for thousands of different unhappy reasons. I think there is a lot to be said about people staying together just cause they love each other, jump over a broomstick or whatever - have ceremonies and anniversaries to celebrate of real happiness but not because of legal repercussions and faking the funk.

First thing that comes to my thoughts is the fact that I get to share all my life with the one I love and he has made the same committed vows to me! I am happily married and would advise anybody who is willing to make such a commitment to do so as long as they take it seriously. Think of it as permanent and undo-able as it is supposed to be just that! In my opinion most people don't take marriage for what it really means.
"I take this man to be my lawful wedded husband, promise to love and cherish him in sickness and health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, and forsaking all others keep myself only onto him, for so long as I live."
If you can abide by such a vow then I say go for it! If not, forget it!

I was married in 1989. Then we had 2 kids, believe me it has it's
ups and downs. Yes it is worth it, I wouldn't change one day or
thought about getting married. Remember those words, "I do"
and " Till death do you part". You won't regret it.

I think about how glad I am that I'm not married and have all the problems to deal with. Been there, done that, and never again.
