I sing when I'm at work....to occupy my mind and I think it helps improve my spirits.

Maybe it's just because they really WANT to be that happy.

Well I sing all the time and when I'm at work doing it people always say wow your happy, wish I could be like that, but the thing is I am not always happy, half the time I'm quite fed up because I am work but it seems to me those are the times you neede to sing more. My point, people who sing are not necessaraly consumed by a glowing ball of happiness.

I do that all the time, at home and in my car. It's because for some reason I have a song in my head. Some times I sing the same one over and over, until I get sick of it. It can be for like a day, though. Then I switch to a different song.

Singing and humming is not always a sign of happy-it is often done when people are nervous, uncomfortable, etc.

people hum and sing for various reasons, sometimes to keep them concentrate on what they are doing; to help them forget about something disturbing them; being in a happy mood or even when they are sad they will be humming and singing praises to God.

Maybe they REALLY are that HAPPY.
Who can know?
I'm not that Happy One, nevertheless I leave people be the way they are and I really admire those who are able to sing, to hum, to smile, to be merry and tell witty things notwithstanding the ugliness of REAL LIFE.

Don't be gloomy, be HAPPY

I suppose it depends on what they are singing and humming.
