Love is many things to many people, but true love has a few aspects that some people forget. True love is selfless and unconditional. A parent shows this to their children, and couples can show it too. Don't misunderstand me when I say unconditional though, for you can love someone very much and still choose not to be with them if they do not treat you well, or if you know they would be happier without you. You just realize that despite your love it is not going to work out. The saying "if you love something set it free" is true, it is a display of the selfless qualities of true love. True love does not need reciprocation to thrive and to be beautiful, it can take joy in the other person with or without their returned feelings. It can find happiness in the mere knowledge that those we love are happy or doing well. True love is not selfish nor destructive, there are many times when people use love towards a negative end, and while I don't doubt that these people are feeling something, they are not acting in accordance to true love. True love is not necceissarily desire, but rather a joy that can be found in other people. True love is often blinded by human folly. True love is patient, and true love is acceptance, not illusionary acceptance, but true acceptance of another person for all their faults as well as their virtues. True love wants the best for the person regardless of what this means for the person who is in love. True love is an amazing thing, and I can only hope that people can rise above their own downfalls so that they may experience it first hand. Open hearted, selfless, patient, compassionate, empathetic true love.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as the one who would turn aside his wrath, taking away our sins.
Peace! :)
