ten years ago. i got into some problems with friends. it lead to a felony, since then i now live in las vegas and hold a job as head of security. i make good money however i have already moved my family to il, i have stayed until i find a job there. i am look for ideas on how i find the same job there. i have my masters in criminal justice, also an associates in criminology , post certifcate ,cert training, have taken many of couses in bail enforcement and security. however when it comes to IL and IN i seem to be running into road blocks . so i am open for any ideas any one may have.

Well I don't know how they do things in Vegas but here in Indiana you being a convicted felon pretty much shut the door on you in regards to any security or anything like that. They don't believe that you have paid your price for your wrongs....in fact they believe once your a convict your always a convict.

So if I was you and was really interested in staying in the field your in I would say stay in Vegas.

This is sad but true...My analogy behind this is if your (society) not going to cut the ex-con a break then why should he/she refrain from illegal activities? They won't...because all the other doors are shut to them.

Actually, you may need to go through a temporary employment agency. Don't hide your felony conviction. Be open and honest about it! I commend you for getting an education and turning your life around. Also, just because you have a felony conviction does NOT mean you can't work for a police department or correction agency. Apply for those jobs as well. You might be surprised!
