IF I WOULD BE TEACHING NEW WORDS, I WOULD FIRST NOTICE WHETHER THE WORDS ARE EASY OR DIFFICULT. IF THE WORDS ARE EASY I WOULD PREFER TO SPEAK FIRST. BUT, IF I FIND WORDS DIFFICULT, I WOULD PREFER TO WRITE FIRST, SO THAT, PRONUNCIATION BECOMES EASIER AND IT COULD BE EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE.

I am a language teacher and I have learned that it is best to say it first, perhaps with pictures (especially if you are teaching foreign language). If you think of a 2 year old child and how they develop language they do not see the word written first. They learn language by hearing it. You should teach it the same way. This is the best way for language acquisition.

Simultaneously, actually. Say the new vocab while writing it on the board. Now, don't think that once said the kids will be able to remember it. You've got to follow it up with a lot of examples (flashcards, pictures) to make sure they get it. Next, let them say it, while you (consistently) point to it's spelling on the board.

Write first so that they are able to see how you spell the word and then explain its meaning with examples.

Write the word first. If they can see it, it is easier for them to grasp the meaning.
