Hi I was born in the UK my father is American, to the girl ('Traveler') above, and the girl below; I think it's YOU that's ignorant for generalizing. In fact the US has a higher unemployment rate then the UK, and a higher rate of people without an education so perhaps you should research these findings before making comments like that. And I think we should all remember that most Americans were European settlers (for those of you uneducated like the women below and Traveler above, the UK is in Europe) so your essentially criticizing your ancestors. And a recent study conducted suggests the UK has a higher IQ rate; I think in the region of 100-140 where as the US is 75-100. I am half American and Half British so I am not biased either way. My IQ is 150

Worldwide research from lynn and such for IQ vs Wealth of the nations shows the average IQ in the UK is 100 based on extensive testing.

Which is high. It was once assumed the average IQ of the world was 100, however, worldwide testing shows that it is actually about 90.

I would expect it to be pretty much 100 - the scales are set so that 100 is the average, and I don't see why over a population over this size, you shouldn't get a good range to end up at 100 average.

Zero, I don't think so - we have a significant Mensa membership, thank-you, of which I happen to be a member and proud that my IQ is 158 - the same as Carol Vorderman!

As in UK we are not Americans, our IQ would be higher. theirs is 70-100, so for us it should be 100-130.

So that you know, this is a sweeping generalisation aimed at certain people who have a superiority complex and post answers reflecting this.

The actual average IQ tends to be 100 in developed countries.

Yeah, I think it's about 100.
Which, to be fair, is pretty crap.
I mean, my IQ is 138, so that must mean that there's somebody walking about out ther with an IQ of 72 to balance it out. Just think: I'm almost twice as smart as whoever that is: go me!
But seriously: 100 is pretty lame (no offence meant to anybody who's IQ is 100. Or less.)

Please understand that by definition, the average IQ is 100. That is the average accross large samples, and the entire country of UK would have to be a large enuff sample.

Chris dalf it doesn't matter if your IQ is low or not these days. I have a friend who is thick as pig poo but he passes all his exams and he will be successful in his life because he works hard and learns stuff by repeating it in his head. Simarlarly I have a friend who is in Mensa and she just has no common sense and really is pretty stupid.
