Having been though a couple when I was growing up in San Diego, the worse threat I saw was an object falling from a shelf and hitting you on the head.
Just stand in the doorway (the strongest part of the wall) and watch the house sway.

i'm in PA. we've blizzards sometimes; snowstorms are extra uncomplicated. And the occasional flood (often led to by potential of remnants of a hurricane...hurricane Ivan some years in the past led to huge floods, we had a foot of water in our basement and we've been relatively fortunate!). we've had minor tornadoes. and a number of different years in the past (perchance 10?) we had an fairly minor earthquake north of right here close to Sharon.
