Lately I've put a great deal of time & thought into my plans to be a nursing major. I guess I'm just curious to know which specific field has seemed to be the most rewarding for students once they moved on & graduated from nursing school & began to work. I'm thinking along the lines of oncology nursing, which I know would probably be very difficult & emotionally draining, but I think I may be able to make a difference there. I'd love to hear what anyone has to say... thanks so much!

gosh, it really depends on what you like. When I first went into nursing I was determined to be a peds nurse . . . once I got to peds I knew I would NEVER be able to handle that. I learned right away that I must keep an open mind when I went into each semester of nursing as each aspect of nursing is different. Peds vs adults, oncology vs ICU etc. I personally love the ER, but that's because my personally is one that likes to keep moving, keep seeing different things, not knowing what's coming through the door & being able to move on with a different patient every couple of hours. Some nurses enjoy knowing all about the patient, their family, their pets, their health history etc. . . I personally would find myself going crazy if I had to work with the same five patients for 12 hours, others would find it enjoyable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is it's really a personal preference & it is important to keep your mind & options open if you decide to go into nursing. Sometimes what we think we'll love turns out to be something we truly loath.
JMO.
