Is this some other sort of puzzle we are expected to figure out with this game. I have got thru the game but would like to know what was going on in the jig saw puzzles.

Sounds like you got a buggy game, please visit BigFishGame.com to update you game. I had to update too, even though i didn't have the same problem. During it's first release there were quite a few bugs, including the language problem, as well as the Living Room Glitch (there was never a way to get into it, unless it appeared in the last puzzle) and another glitch where once you completed the game, you had to either erase or start a new new, if you continue with an existing name after beating it, you could play level 1 only, then level 2 would pop up and say you're out of time ... and it would keep saying that.
in conclusion, you best bet is to update to the current version.

i got that **** too and when i finished the game i got a letter about the Queen's Hope from MCF 2. it must be the beta version
