It is a lie, put about by fundamentalist Christians, that the Government is saying the new Sexual Orientation Regulations bill will force schools to promote homosexuality. In fact the law has nothing to do with the school curriculum at all.

It always makes me laugh that some Christians believe lying for their religion is OK.

However, I see nothing wrong with schools telling children homosexuality is normal. It is, of course - a significant minority of them will probably end up being homosexual themselves, whether or not they're aware of it yet, and whether or not schools mention the issue. However, if children learn that it is normal, maybe the children who are homosexual will avoid years of bullying and abuse.

Not 'normal'? What is normal?

Here's a simple definition (from dictionary.com):
conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural.

I think by that definition same gener relationships must be considered normal. They are natural (and if you doubt that you should look at the animal kingdom for examples) and hardly unusual.

As to the question - would i like these relationships promoted in schools? Yes and no. Yes, because if different sex relationships are being promoted then so should same sex. Just to avoid the stigma that exists now. And no, because I don't think same sex or different sex should be 'promoted'. I also don't think the law you're comments are inspired by does say that same sex relationships are to be promoted. Just that they are to be treated equally to different sex relationships - and there is a significant difference there.

My point is that I think it is very important for children to see that same sex relationships are not inferior to different sex relationships.

I take it you are the president of the board that officially decides what constitutes normality, then? Funny, you'd think they would have appointed somebody with a higher level of literacy...

It's hardly as though the plans are to actively encourage hetrosexual kids to convert to being gay, now is it? The idea is to try and enlighten the general population about different forms the family unit can take. I can't imagine why they'd think people needed that.

Maybe if they'd had it at your school you wouldn't have turned out to be a prejudiced, ignorant bigot.

Dear me are you living in the stone age, being homosexual is not a choice its what you are born with and it is perfectly normal. However, i don't think schools should be promoting relationships of any kind, they seem so incaple of teaching safe sex and now they want to promote gay relationships. Its not going to work especially in schools as kids will use anything to bully others so they should jus give them the information, especially that being gay is normal, i think they should get that point across at least so that you don't push your close minded and ignorant views onto others.

promoting? I think schools should at least make it clear that it is normal and acceptable. So often it is assumed at school that everyone is heterosexual. The anxiety that that can cause is unbearable to many kids. Especially when they go out in the playground and get bullied by the kids of bigoted parents.

i dont think they should promote, yet not discourage it at the same time. i go to an all boys school in England, some of the boys there are openly gay or bisexual, but the teacher disaproves of whenst they embrace eachother, im not sure what the solution to this is, do they promote these acts where thee lives?

No i would not like it..........i dont think we should teach them that gays are lesser humans or promote any hatred but we should definitely not promote homosexuality to young impressionable, confused children who may decide they want to try it out to get some sexual attention.

I very much doubt that any teacher will be promoting any kind of relationship to their pupils. They will be far too busy actually teaching them to be in any way interested in their personal lives.
