Unfortunately, Pluto has been voted out of the solar system and is no longer a planet. So, there are 8 planets now. I wonder if kids in school are going to stop learning about Pluto from now on...

In our Solar system there are 8 major planets and 3 dwarf planets so far, but as our telescopes get better and we discover more Kuiper Belt objects this number is likely to increase.

Extrasolar planets (outside our Solar system) are discovered on a regular basis so any answer will be out of date within a short period of time.

More than likely one less, the planet Earth In about 5 years if not through war it will be through the destruction of this planet by destroying the eco system and not bat an eyelash!

There are eight classical planets now, not including the three minor planets discovered so far such as Pluto, Ceres, Xena.

8. pluto as been consider as a dwaf planet already. so it is not a planet in the solar system anymore

if you sont count the dwarf planets there is 8. there was once nine but pluto isn't considerd to be a planet any more
