Simple explanation is that is considered "upright" or straight up-- even if it is in any position the adjoining lines are always straight away from one another !

It is right angle as the vertical exerts 100% force on the base, without wastage of even a fraction of it.
It provides the maximum stability to any object resting over a base, like a wall on exactly right angle to earth is the stable one. You don't need an extra force to stop lateral force, so it is the most economical angle. Also man stands at right angle on earth no other animal can do so. It helped man to be the superior one.
It divides the Earth into four equal directions, East, West,North and South.
None of the angle from all 360 is so much use full for us more than it that's why it is called a right Angle as it is really a true angle, meant for us.

A right angle is an angle equal to half the angle from one end of a line segment to the other. A right angle is . A triangle containing a right angle is called a right triangle. However, a triangle cannot contain more than one right angle, since the sum of the two right angles plus the third angle would exceed the FPRIVATE "TYPE=PICT;ALT=180 degrees" total possessed by a triangle.
The patterns of cracks observed in mud that has been dried by the sun form curves that often intersect in right angles

The term right in right angle comes from the meaning of right as proper, or in accordance to justice or equality. It comes from the way a right angle was originally defined. When two straight lines intersect they form two angles. When these angles are equal then this is a fair or just situation and the angles are "right".

I think that is because it is conventionally drawn on the right hand side of the triangle that represents Phythagoras theorem in which the angle (90 degrees) make up the largest angel in the triangle.

Ok here's what I found on the net:
The latus rectum in a parabola is the side (latus) through the focus that is straight (rectus - parallel to the directrix). Latus rectum is the Latin translation of the Greek orthea pleura for erect side which was the term Apollonius used in his books on the conic sections. As languages blended in the middle ages, rectos became "recht" and eventually became our word for "right" and for the right angle. The idea of vertical as the "right" position led to the use of right as proper or good. We see this in words like correct, which means, literally, to make straight (or right). The person who is reckless (less right) makes hasty decisions without regard for consequences.

When two straight lines intersect they form two angles. When these angles are equal then this is a fair or just situation and the angles are "right". You can say they are geometrically "perfect".
The question "Why isn't called a left angle?" may lead you to wonder if these two distinct meanings of right is an anomoly of English, but it is not. In most western european languages there is one word that means right as opposed to left, right as proper and also right as a human right.

The word "right" is used for this angle because the word has the meaning of "true" or "correct." When a carpenter is building a house and he positions a wall, he wants that wall to be correctly placed; to be "right" or "true." So when the wall is vertical then it is correctly placed or "true." A correctly placed "true" wall is perfectly vertical and so it makes a "right" angle with the ground. This is what a right angle or a 90 degree angle is.
