I'm afraid there's little you can do about this legally.

The hotel has a duty of care.

You have a duty of care.

It would be different if you'd given them your phone etc. to keep in their safe, but you didn't. You could be expected to take reasonable care of your phone and it is inot reasonable to leave "valuables" lying around.

What you can get out of this is a (rather expensive and unpleasant) lesson. Mobile phones, cameras etc. go with you at all times, in all countries. If it's vaulable and too big to go with you at all times, don't take it away from home.

Tactical 511 make a great travel shirt, available for women too, with large hidden pockets behind the small breast pockets. Just the thing for travel wear.

Sorry about the foolish comment someone has made about posting this on an "American" forum -- this is a worldwide forum.

Copy and paste this link
http://www.langkawi-online.com/info.shtml
for local police and other phone numbers. I would phone them to get a fax number and fax a statement to the police and anyone else who will listen.
Write a letter of complaint to whoever you booked the hotel through detailing dates, times and all other information you have, enclose copies of booking information and copy this letter to the police in Langkawi, also the Langkawi tourist board (if there is one)
Finally search for all the tourist hotel review websites on the net and write your own review of what happened.
Good luck in this, if you don't complain, this will happen to lots of others, keep at it, don't give up.

It seems your hotel is NOT in the USA but you post in the USA , why ? Laws different in different countries . . . What country are you even talking about ? What are their laws about this ?
Also , as far as the phone , the previous people gave you good advice for USA companies but again, you don't appear to be from USA so why you post in USA ?
