We`ve just found a sick house fly with no wings, we tried to fashion some imprompu prosthetic wings from two ironing boards, but on attaching these to the fly his condition has deteriorated. What should me do to save this brave little soldier?

try attacting something lighter like two fly swatters to him, this should help him fly again. Best of luck to you

OK I hope my contribution isn't to late, I hope your little friend is still alive. DON'T WASTE TIME on trying prosthetics at this crucial time. What you need to do is encourage him to realise he is still a full house fly even without his wings. Show him some pictures of spiders eeeeeek no that might frighten him. um show him some pictures of wood lice so that he can see that their are other creatures that lead a full life without wings. In time you may consider prosthetic wings however learning to fly again with prosthetics could take more time than is the natural life for a fly. Best wishes, keep the home fires burning. Don't let him vomit on the table

The ironing boards, are they regular size or travel size? You may overload some of the smaller flies with the larger ones, that is probably the problem. Of course I have seen horse flies that can grap a full sized one out of your hands and whack you over the head with it.

You might also want to lubricate its wing mounts. To do this, swich a tiny q-tip in the muck under the refrigerator, then apply it to the juncture of the fly to the ironing board.

Swimming can also help your little friend recover. Put him in a cup of coffee, not too hot mind you! And let him paddle around a bit.
