What about a serviced apartment rather than a hotel? They have a bit more room usually so might be able to cater for you and your family.

The Medina Serviced Apartments are really good to stay at for a night. I stayed in one with my family when I first moved to Sydney, Australia from the UK. With this type of apartment, you can book per night, and you can get one, two or three bedrooms, with a kitchen - living room and table area. They are really nice, with modern furnishings (better than a hotel even) and they are all over Sydney.

I would highly recommend them.

Check wotif.com about 2 weeks before you go. THey have good deals and I believe when you type in you can look at how many bedrooms you want. For example, they have a 3 bedroom apartment at the Meriton in Pitt Street (5 star hotel, very nice I think) (city centre) on a sunday night for $284 (Australian doallars). It depends how much you think is expensive. The downside is that they usually only have bookings 2 weeks or less before the date you want to go.

I use www.stayz.com.au for heaps of my holidays.. but most are a minimum of 3 days stay. But as Carmijune said, wotif.com is great too and highly discounted for late notice accommodation. You could also try;
www.takeabreak.com.au
www.lastminute.com

Good luck matey :)
