You should quit before you are pregnant. You shouldn't smoke if you are on the pill. People smoke to relieve stress and anxiety but become addicted to the habit. Something common to think about when you are pregnant and smoking. DO NOT QUIT COLD TURKEY. Your body gets use to the nicotine being in your system. Your fat cells store excess. If you stop all of a sudden your body will naturally squeeze the cells to drop the nicotine back into your system but at an uncontrolled rate. So if you are pregnant slowly stop smoking. You should be able to accomplish this during the 1st trimester.

I was a one and a half pack a day smoker when I found out I was pregnant with my child. My doctor said that it takes about ten days to even show up that you are pregnant and by then the baby has already become addicted and if you quit cold turkey it could put withdrawl and stress on the baby so you should cut down to quit. Then there is the woman who believe it wont happen to them there babies wont be harmed or they just don't have the willpower to quit

some dont care some cant kick the habbit. its an addiction. I do know of girls who have been told to not quit cold turkey because the withdrawal symptoms and stress from withdrawal (to both mother and baby) can cause self termination. But these are people who were heavy smokers and didn't find out they were pregnant between 3 - 5 months along......I don't think that there is any excuse for a pregnant woman to be smoking.

Please note: all the girls did cut down straight away and quit and they all had HEALTHY babies in the same month!

Probably because they are so addicted to the nico in it. Another option I've seen personally is that the woman thought she was invincible and that "a little smoke won't harm a baby" Haven't seen her since.

I used to know a girl that said her doctor told her that her body and her baby would be subject to more stress if she tried to quit smoking than if she just kept smoking and hoped for the best. She said "my first baby turned out fine and I smoked the whole time." Go figure.

a lot of them do stop but for those who don't, it's just a risk to take, they're not so bothered about the consequences, maybe they don't register that the future of a child is in their hands.

Nothing you can do about it, hopefully they just quit...A lot of women smoked way back when and their babies came out fine...

Because they are addicted and are selfish enough to not want to try and stop.
