My girlfriend has recently been having problems with her car. When she turns on her car the RPM's will sometimes go to 2 or above and then slowly drop back down to 1 RPM.When she puts it in gear(automatic transmission) it will sometimes take off by itself without giving it gas.It accelerates to a point where you have to press the brake or it will just keep going on her. After awhile of driving the car settles back down and acts like nothing has happened.Just the other day she was low on fuel so she stopped to gas up and headed for work. When she got out of work to go home the car didn't want to start. The only way to get the car to start was to turn the key and pump the gas to get it started but then when you get your foot off the gas pedal the car would turn back off.The check engine light is not on and doesn't come on at all so i'm thinking it's not a sensor but I am just mindboggled about this.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a fluke meter or something similar then test it and compare it with the reading you get from a new one at the parts store. Some parts places will test your old one for you. If that doesn't solve your problem then have your vehicle tested for codes. The check engine light doesn't necissarily have to be on for your car to actually have trouble codes in the computer. Good luck 2 ya...
