What's even express about them? It's just small. The staff don't fecking roller skate around on coke, doing everything in a god damn hurry do they? Also surely a smaller version of a megastore (a la Virgin) is just a 'store'.

I know I shouldn't let this arrant nonsense get to me, and probably need to calm down.

I know what you mean! its the same with express tills, they only allow up to 10 items yet the volume of people outweighs the benefits of having less items. express my aunt fanny! the smaller it is the more crowded it gets!

Ehm.. Tesco Express is indeed a small store. When you are in a hurry to get some food in, but cannot be airsed to drive to a retail park, you can shop in the express manner. True, the shop assistants should be quicker too - but this is why in Tesco Express you'll find more tills than shelves, and most automatic.

Virgin Express is their railway isn't it? They're not smaller but bigger than normal rail lines - and to be fair, they're not exactly slow. In the time it would take me to get through Tesco or ASDA on a Saturday, getting the week's shopping done, I could travel from Manchester to Edinburgh. You can guess what I'd rather do.

Oh and don't calm down. Where's the fun in that?

Lol "Virgin -store" - I like it.

I also like the idea that if Tesco Express is supposed to be fast, Tesco Extra could have staff on weed ambling along the aisles, casually filling a shelf here or serving a customer there.

Tesco want to monopolise the supermarket market and therefore when they get a chance to open a new store however large they will.
Tesco express stores seem to have put smaller independant companies out of business (or so it seems) and personally I have never been in one as the queues are usually piling out of the doors.

They are local stores which are usually part of a petrol station, so they provide the car driver with some food to eat while on the road, or a local store for the shopper who doesn't want a trek to the supermarket.

I dunno but personally Tesco "Express" in my opinion takes 10 times longer to get served and everythings more expensive than in the normal Tescos!
