I don't know. I personally want to live in Alaska and I am a single woman. Of course, I like isolation, cold weather, and nature but I admit there is a possibility that could get really old after a while.

There is alot of crime and rape in Alaska. As far as not having anything to do,,I live near Anchorage and its the biggest city Ive ever lived near. The traffic is horrible as there are a ton of people. I dont think the man vs woman ratio is as big as what I heard before I had moved up here. I think you would be "ok "living up here alone, but why not stay where you would have a support system if something did go wrong.

You've been watching Anne Heche star in "Men In Trees", haven't you?
Are you actually asking- "Is alaska a good place for a single woman looking for a man?"
Depends on the man. And the woman.

I lived their for 6 years. Fairbanks, its freezing cold 8 months of the year and Aug is almost always rainy. June and July are to die for. The sun never sets, but sits in the noon sky and the temps are between 70-85 with no humidity.
The economy sucks really bad and unemployment is a seasonal problem. Its mostly a male population and alcohol and meth are large problem. Most of the population is from somewhere Else in the lower 48. Oh yeah its dark alot of the year. Suicide rates are high in the winter and the native population 13% or so are almost all drunks and rape is a common practice within their villages.

I've traveled there.
Of the 50 states that a single woman could go to, I would rank it between 45-50 least favorable places to go.

if you like the cold, you like hunting and fishing, and you fanbcy the chance of finding a like wise guy or girl depending on your preference then i'd say great go for it.
personally i need a tropical climate just to survive and keep my mobility (i'll not go in to details here).
why not consider sunny old England, devon and cornwall, ok it is wet most of the time but often warm rain. just a thought.
seriously though it is your life you have to live it your way.
so i'd say go for a two week holiday wid winter, if you love it and can see yourself there full time then go for it. otherwise you will always have that nagging doubt in the back of your mind asking constantly "what if...?"
life is full of choices you have to try and make the correct choices for your situation and lifestyle.
Only YOU know what is right for you. so only YOU can decide what you have to do to be happy in your life, afterall the only person in your life you have to be happy with and you have to live with 24/7 is YOU.
good luck.
whatever you decide remember to have plenty of fun.

Also asking that question. My cousins are living up there and they look pretty rough up. You know, outdoor adventure for men, fishing, skiing, moose hunting -- i'm not sure if this is apt for a woman.

I believe you should not live alone. however, alaska is an isolated place, very cold, why not try living in Philippines?
