The Lancet report estimated in late October that about 655,000 Iraqis had died since the American invasion of Iraq. Since around ten thousand more have lost their lives.
On December 31st 2006 the death toll of American Soldiers reached 3000, more than the number of people who died in the WTC (which, granted has absolutely nothing to do with Iraq).
Why is it that the majority in America is calling for the withdrawal of troops and an end to this invasion, only now that it is clear that the USA is not able to win this war and the American people aren't prepared to lose more troops?
With nearly a quarter of a million civilian Iraqis dead already as a direct result of Bush's intervention in Iraq, do you not think it's about time we started valuing human life rather than doing so only on condition that the person whose life is to be saved has the same passport as you?

Swain, I fail to see the link between this occupation and the invasion of Kuwait in 1991. Could you please enlighten me?

I do believe that human beings, regardless of the passports they carry, are entitled to same basic rights as everyone else. I don't believe in war and I don't believe in sacrificing innocent lives for a specific cause, whatever that may be. I do hope the fighting stops, although that's the naivete in me that refuses to go away. I know that wars will always be with us. It's just strange because I know that deep within, we would all rather have peace.

Your dreaming, whilst I do not agree with the fact that there is a number of countries in Iraq to try and settle the country down after the dictator who ran the country by force and murder.
The situation is now that there is three TRIBES (not political groups) that all want to run the country so everyone wants to be in charge. If the allies were to now discontinue the action and leave the country it would create a vaccum and the country would have another Saddam in the seat. And do not forget like WW1 and WW2 the allies did not start the action, IRAQ invaded Kuwait in the 90's

What a silly thing to say. Iraqis are the ones who don't value human life. They've never come to our aid or offered us any support. Iraqis are the ones killing Iraqis!! So stop your propagandist Bull--t!
******************************************
Iraqis have not DIED because of our interest in your thousand year-ongoing feud you've been having. The Iraqis need to start taking responsibility for their country and stop thinking any group can help them help themselves.
If U.S. Military had not come TO YOUR AID, that death toll would be astronomically higher!
I don't think we should be there at all, as it's your problem not ours. But oil is driving this train.
Iraqis are dead because since 1979, you have allowed a DICTATOR to run you guys.
Wake up! Smell the Coffee, Ferris.
I pray the Congress will veto bush and bring our troops home safely soon.

I don't question your 655,000 figure, but i've not ever heard that number before. I don't feel that an American life is more valuable then others, so this puts the deaths of 658,000 at the hands of G. Bush:(
And more to come:(

Yes, they don't value life. If they did there would not be people fighting with each other the way they do. This goes for any that practice that life style to kill in the name of god.

Kind of sad, but I don't think an American life is worth anymore, but when an American dies it effects me more. Truly sorry for the death and devestation spread by this war.

i know where you are coming from. human life and rights need to be treated a lot more respectfully and cautiously. unfortunately, in a political war, they are the first to be abandoned.
