The following picture is taken through the heating vent and shows what appears to be something orange growing in the wood that is underneath my carpet in the house.

Do you think it is mold? and if so, what kind is it most likely and is it toxic? I also saw ants walking near it. Any help would be great. Thanks

That's a combination mold type that grows from damp or wet wood. Pull your carpet back far enough to let it dry. Scrape this mold off and spray with Lysol (it kills molds) let it dry for a few days and try it again. Black molds can be dangerous, breathing in these molds can start asthma attacks and create breathing problems.

it might not be exactly mold, but is in the same family. it is possible it is not even that at all. could be ant or termite colonies. couldnt tell from the pic. at any rate, you need to be rid of it. you have a moisture problem of some sort, if in fact it is in the mold family. toxic? probably not, though if you have certain health problems such as Asthma, it can hurt you.
