Kirby vacs have attachments that are meant to be used for hard floors, but they are more commonly used on carpeted floors. My mom had a Kirby as I was growing up, and I have one too. So many attachments its hard to decide what they are all for!
That salesperson must have been awfully good to sell a Kirby for hardwood floors. But, you'll still get use out of it... just not to the full potential for such a high-priced vacuum cleaner.

Nothing beats a Kirby that I'm aware of. Kirby vacuum cleaners have been around for centuries and are well known for their unbeatable performance, durability and endurance. (they run forever.....practically maintenance free) The motors are known to be the longest running with the least amount of problems. I've never seen a Kirby vacuum cleaner in a garage sale!
