Why you don't ask about Whitney Houston's big comeback this year? It's way way much more interesting than Britney's comeback.

That's according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll over the weekend. Twice as many people expressed great support for the comeback of the pop superstar of the reality show Being Bobby Brown over fellow singers-turned-reality-TV-stars Britney Spears (Britney & Kevin: Chaotic) and Jessica Simpson (Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica). Of the 1,004 adults polled, 32% hoped Tom Cruise would have a comeback this year.
Rolling Stone associate editor Brian Hiatt believes the poll's results are related to the star's tabloid exposure.
"People are voting for who they'd like to come back because they haven't seen them for a while," says Hiatt, who adds that Houston has the best shot at reclaiming success. "People know she has had a hard time, and people are rooting for her."

More than 40% of respondents want the singer, who has been in and out of drug rehab, to shine again. In October, music producer Clive Davis reintroduced Houston, who is seeking a divorce from husband Brown, to Beverly Hills high society at the Carousel of Hope charity ball. Houston and Davis are working on her next album, which they hope to release this year.

Also working on a 2007 album, Spears, who posted a letter on her website Friday promising an image makeover in the new year, didn't get as much support like Houston has. According to the poll, only 17% of respondents hoped Spears, who is seeking a divorce from Kevin Federline, would succeed in 2007.
Hiatt says, "Britney is overexposed in every possible way, quite literally."

As for Nick Lachey's ex, Simpson, support for a successful comeback also was slim, just 21%. In December, she bungled Dolly Parton's song 9 to 5 at the Kennedy Center Honors. This year, she will star opposite Luke Wilson in the romantic comedy Blonde Ambition.

Cruise, whose marriage to Katie Holmes and public firing from Paramount generated headlines in 2006, is shooting the Robert Redford-directed drama Lions for Lambs, scheduled to open in December.

I think she'll end up gaining 100 pounds and then go on Celebrity Fit Club trying to make a comeback, and then end up on one of those pathetic celebrity reality TV shows, like Celebrity Duets or Dancing with the Stars, after having a very public meltdown, driving around 100 miles an hour with both of her kids out of carseats while jacked up on cocaine and ending up getting run down by the cops, spending six months in rehab, and being featured on the cover of every tabloid magazine in America saying, "I was abused as a child, and the pressure just got to me - Britney's untold story" and eventually fade into obscurity.

I think that if she disciplines herself and finds her footing with RIGHT friends, she will make a comeback. She has all the potential. She just doesn't realize that she's wrecking havoc on herself and her career with her over-the-top partying ways.
