Nope, you are allowing them to continue to do it. You have to stop them the first time and let them know that you do not take crap from anybody... Sometimes people confuse kindness with weakness and will simply run over you verbally... You can't allow that to happen and maintain any self respect... You can talk in a calm manner as long as you say something to the effect of " I really don't appreciate your tone, and if you want this conversation to continue, I suggest you be respectful."

It kind of depends. If you are a Democrat, you probably figure it's your fault because otherwise they wouldn't have done it.
If you're a Republican you might call in an airstrike and blow their legs off and then have Congress berate you along with the press about how they needed a hug, not an airstrike.
If you're an Independent, you aren't sure if the original signers of the Declaration of Independence would allow taxes to have airplanes to give airstrikes, so you do nothing.
