Love is a emotional connection related to insecurity, hate, attachment, pleasure, and psychosis. It is also related to endorphins and dopamine. Relationship "love' is most likely psychological modeling of our parenteral relationships. That is, we take a role of our parenteral figures and model this in adulthood.

Throughout history, predominately, philosophy and religion have speculated the most into the phenomena of love. In the late 16th century, people referred to intimate relationships in terms of couples having "good" interpersonal chemistry, with reference to alchemical spells and chemical affinity. In the last century, the science of psychology has written a great deal on the subject. Recently, however, the sciences of evolutionary psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, neuroscience, and biology have begun to take center stage in discussion as to the nature and function of love. The general consensus supposes that the phenomenon and process of love is subject to the laws of science just as is anything in the universe. Recent writings have focused on making a connection between love and evolution.

It depends on whether it is love between a parent and child, or love between two adults. "Love" between parent and infant has actually been shown to be based upon trust and security, rather than love. Infants know nothing of "love" and are only attached to what they know, and what makes them feel secure.

Love between two adults is based off of many things. The matching hypothesis suggests that we seek out others that we view to be equally attractive to ourselves. One theory also states that men appear to seek women who are younger, and readily able to bear children, while women seek older, more stable men, who can raise these offspring. The actual feeling of love is still very mysterious, but there are numerous perspectives that can help one gain a better understanding of the concept.
