I would answer: although the salary can be negotiable,as I stated in my application, I feel the minimum that I would accept would be a salary match to my previous position.

Research the position carefully. What is the average? What is your level of experience? How much do you require to live the lifestyle you are accustomed to? Jumble those three in your head for awhile, and build a concrete answer in your head before anyone has a chance to ask.
Negotiable could work - but you'll likely get less. But what do I know, I'm still a wage-earning Teamster.

firstly never talk in terms of gross, always nett- this is the minimum amount you need to take home after deductions etc. work out your budget and determine how much you require to take home at the end of every month to make ends meet- this is your benchmark or nett salary. know your own worth, establish the going rate for this position (in the market), if the company is offering less don't be scared to offer this information (if anything it shows that you have done your homework and come prepared) explain your budget requirements (no need for detail) and simply stipulate that in order to come out or make ends meet you require X amount take home after deductions.

I would answer it with: Open. That way it means that it is up for discussion.
