As you can see from the assortment of responses you have recieved here,... this is a topic for which you will have to find out for yourself what the truth really is. .............. I just want to add to those here who have already assured you that energy healing is a real phenomenon.
You are energy. .. Everything that exists is in it's essence,.. pure energy. ... This whole experience that we call life and everything in it, is basically a product of energy. ... Consciousness itself is energy. ... If you don't believe me just explore the more recent findings of modern physics which will confirm this for you. .... The ancient Chinese knew this thousands of years ago and they based their entire understanding of life and the bodymind on the fact of the interacting forces of YIN and YANG.
Now more and more you see individuals and even modern medicine and hospitals beginning to utilise such modalities as acupuncture and Therapeutic Touch and Reiki etc.... which are all modalities that work with the human energy field.
The phenomenon of Life Force or energy or what western culture has typically referred to as "Spirit",... is more real than what we in the material plane call "reality". .. The problem we suffer from is that we only believe in what can be directly seen or felt with the five senses. .... This does not mean however that we are aware of all that IS. ... My experience has shown me that for the most part, we humans are extremely unaware and unconscious,.... and this is especially true of those of us in western culture.
If you go to a country such as China,.. the reality of what the Chinese refer to as "Chi" (pronounced chee),... is an integral part of the culture. ... Literally thousands of Chinese daily practice such forms of exercise as Tai Chi or Chi Kung. .. or Martial Arts such as Kung Fu. ..... All of these arts are alll about cultivating and developing ones "Chi" or what we in the west might refer to as "Life Force". ............ Even the practice of meditation is a practice that is all about cultivating ones Life Force. ....................
If you speak to an advanced practitioner of these sort of arts,.. they will all tell you that the Life Force is very real,.. and the cultivation of ones access to it,... is the one real answer to the question of how the individual can improve the quality of ones life and overall health. .................... I must reiterate here however,.. that we here in the West are utterly ignorant of such things. It is true that this is slowly changing as more of western culture is becoming aware of these truths,.... but still for the most part our culture remains in ignorance,...and this is reflected in many of the negating responses you recieved to your question here.
.... I will share with you that from my direct and very extensive experience with this,.. there is nothing more real in this universe than the Life Force,... which when you look deeply enough you will discover,.. is Consciousness itself.
As far as energy healers is concerned,.... for you to know is that different individuals have greater or lesser access to the Life Force. ... The range of access that is possible is literally unllimited,... but those among us who have access to extreme amounts of energy are more rare and unusual. .........
If you want to read about one contemporary laying on of hands healer who has access to a greater amount of Life Force,.. you could read the book on the following link:
http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Hope-Dean-Kraft/dp/0399143890
The healer Dean Kraft is an exceptional and very true healer who has even participated in extensive scientifiic experiments to measure and prove his abilitiies. There was even a major motion picture aired on national television in the states some years back that told the story of Dean Krafts life.............. As I mentioned before however,... do not percieve that Mr. Kraft is an example of the limits of what we are capable of. .. There are those in the world who even pale what Dean Kraft is exhibiting. ...
............... In my opinion, the average Reiki healer in the world today is really accessing a more limited range of Life Force and as a result the results and effects of their work tends to be more subtle and unapparent to the skeptical and unaware observer,.. yet this is not always the case.
If you take the time to seriously explore and educate yourself on this subject, you will discover that what I am sharing with you here is very much the truth. I can guarantee you of this.
Be Well....

Absolutely it works. Have you ever felt really down to the point your body hurts, then someone gives you a hug with genuine compassion behind it and you feel better? That's energy healing. Yes, energy healing can also heal people of diseases and conditions. Sometimes people don't heal right away because they need that sickness for some reason; they need the lessons it is teaching them.
I've been healed many times with energy work, not of diseases, but of emotional pain. I've been fortunate not to have had any diseases or cancer.

I use energy on a daily basis to heal myself and others. I can understand why others will deny this. Its a very personal experience that is misunderstood. Energy work covers a wide area of modalities. Everything from massage to past life regression is part of energy work. If you believe it will work for you then you will get results. If you believe its all a lie then it won't work for you. Our desire to be healthy has to have a clear road to get to where we want to go. Obstacles like confusion and doubt will block that road.
I can tell you that a women was cured of cancer with Reiki. I can tell you that a man was healed of fears through past life regression. I can tell you that meditation will release blocked energy in the nervous system. All these things work if you let them. The greatest enemy to good health is fear and doubt.

Most Illness originates in the mind! Energy healing is the oldest form of medicine known to man and back then people lived to be like 200 years old! It most certainly does work ...if you let it!

Of course energy healing works.
The energy is universal lifeforce energy. the chinese call it ch'i, Japanese call it Ki.
There is energy flowing through you every day.
All energy healing does is gives your system a boost of energy, and then your body uses this increased energy to heal and repair itself.

It always makes me smile when people say things are in your mind. Our only experience of the world is in our own minds. However, my experience of energy healing is that it does work.

No.
In medicine, a therapy is said to "work" if it produces a larger provable positive effect on your health than a non-therapy which you believe is a therapy. E.g. antibiotics provably work better against pneumonia than sugar pills, even if you are told and believe that the sugar pills are antibiotics.
On the other hand, every therapy or non-therapy works better if you believe in it. E.g. if you believe the sugar pills given to you by your doctor are antibiotics and you believe that they help, then they will really show better effects than the same sugar pills if you know that they are only sugar pills. This is called "placebo effect".
There is no evidence "energy healing" really works (in the sense antibiotics do), but there might be a placebo effect connected to it. I.e. it might be that some people have treated by it, believed in it and really got better, but this is not due to the therapy itself, but to people believing in it. If they'd believe in bloodletting, it would help, too.

I am a Reike 2 practioner, I totally believe this works and from the feedback I get from my clients I have no reason to doubt it. Also it does come from the person being treated too, a positive attitude is great, and yes a hug goes a long way. If your interested drop me a line. I dont say I will cure but I go a long way to make people feel better. :-) Have confidence!!

It's a placebo. If you think it's working, you will make your body lessen the symptoms. If you are trying to rid your body of cancer or something, it won't work, go to a doctor.
