Java has nothing to do with deleting contacts from mesenger. very stupid.
may be sign out from the mesenger and try to delete. Find out the JRE that u r using by using the following steps. Go to start -> run (type cmd here). -> type path in the kind of black screen u get. u should get some info like
C:\Documents and Settings\rvasudha>path
PATH=D:\bea\jdk142_04\bin;D:\oracle\ora92\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\
bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WIND
OWS\System32\Wbem
jre mentioned above is the jre in ur machine. try to find out the compatible jre for ayhoo mesenger. i wonder if theres any liek that!!!

messenger needs java ?
that's weird...
anyway, try http://sun.java.com and find something they call JRE.
