iPhone without Cingular contract?

I planed one friend who lives in usa to buy me the iphone,but i saw that's the price with 2 years contract with Cingular.Can i buy it without this contract,cause i live in Europe and in my country there isn't Cingular??

sure when it comes out I'm sure you'll be able to get one on eBay. but its not gonna be cheap. i can guarantee its gonna be a thousand dollars or more.
