Why do doctors hand writting are so bad?all my friend cannot read what they have wrote.....?

Doctors are notorious for having handwriting that is difficult to read.

Then again, you don't really need to read most of what they write either, usually it's for a chemist, a specialist or for their own notes.

Sometimes they write in a special shorthand anyway, known to themselves and the pharmacists - eg 1/4 means I tablet (or whatever) four times a day, 1/1 nocte means one to be taken daily at night. I also think that they do it so as we, the patients, CAN'T read what they say. (though I really shouldn't comment on bad handwriting - I'm not a doctor and mine is illegible most of the time as well)

They do write really bad. This is a problem for any nurse who has to read this. Some courts are using it for medication errors as a way to oversee doctors and the order need to legible . State and federal agencies are also checking and limiting which abbreviations can be used.

This is because they are sometimes in a hurry and in addition, only the pharmacist needs to be able to understand it so I guess they take no care in trying to make the patient understand it.

I was told that the worse your handwriting is, the 'smarter' you are (?) Maybe this explains why doctors handwriting is so bad!! (By this criteria, I should be up there with Einstein!!)
