Hi well just found out my gf is pregnant, I am goint to be 40 this year, she 37. She has 3 kids by another marriage oldest 15 youngest 12, i have a 15yo by previous marriage. Anyway am happy about it just bit worried about age thing. I keep thinking when kid is same age as our existing kids i will be old! I.e at 15 for kid i will be 56! Worried about what it will be like for kid to have old parents, if i will be able to support at kid at that age properly etc. Guess just want to give that kid a good life, its probably a dumb worry but anyway what do you think about having kids later on in life in general???????

I'm a child to older parents. My dad was 43 when I was born and now we are: me:30, him:73. What I regret the most about being a child to an older dad is that I haven't had the chance to enjoy him as an adult whilst he was still relatively young. He was more like a grandad to me than a dad. By the time I was 20, he was 63, hardly the age to go partying the night away, however, if he had been only 53, that would have been much better (as at 53 you are still young enough to party hard). I feel like at least 10 years have been taken from me to be able to enjoy the company of my father as an adult because the generation gap is so huge. My friend's mum was 37 when she had my friend. She is now 36 and 73, respectively, and my friend is forever worried about her elderly mother. I think at 36 you shouldn't be worrying about your parents, you are far too young for that. Right age to have kids? Well, for women I think it's 20-30 years old for man it's 25 to 35.

I am 40 and have a 4 yr old. Am looking to have another in another year or two.

Also, the woman on the desk behind mine is 40 and pregnant.

40 is more difficult for the woman to concieve and keep. The first trimester is the hardest and plenty of folic acid should be consumed.

As for too old. Yes there will be a generation thing when they hit the teans, but when isn't there. You might want to start looking after yourself now though, so that you can keep up later. I cycle. I need to in order to keep up with my daughter.

That said, why should 40 be too old. It will be hard, but it always is. If you want a child, are going to love and enjoy being with it, that is the only criteria. I would say go for it.

Luck

Congratulations to both of you!! 40 is a good age to have a baby these days, you're probably in a better position financially to provide for your family than you would have been at 20. Also, the life expectancy nowadays is longer than ever. You've nothing to worry about, enjoy this baby when it comes As we mature, we have more patience with children and have the financial means to give them a good life. Your child will always love you, regardless of your age, Good Luck

Not at all , my parents friends who are approaching their 50's had a baby at the same time I had my first son at the age of 22. Both children have equally fantastic lives!

They also have other children the oldest of which is 28!

my dad was 50 creating me, ive had the most wonderful dad in the world he passed away while i was in my 20s but he had much more patience with me than my mum did he knew so much more and bought us up with older views and pride dignity and respect, we never hung around bus shelters scaring vulnerable ppl any penchance to try make us look the slightest bit cool by picking on someones downfall we would get a red ear, if that didnt work wed get a red a rse as well cant say ive had many taps he never beat us just give us wat was warranted wen we wouldnt listen and to stop us going off the rails and i think i loved him more than i could possibly have loved a dad who didnt bring us up that way an older parent is better especially one with previous experiencei was 22 havin my son and 30 havin my daughter i think ive handled her much better than i have him, my dads pet hate was being mistook for my grandad though that was only thing that ever riled him

No, it's definitely not too old. Children born to older parents tend to have some distinct advantages, particularly in the area of intelligence.

Congratulations!

Stop worrying and start looking forward to your new arrival.

An older dad can be cool, more laid back and settled. Just like an older mum can. There's loads of advantages so try thinking positive.

Good luck!
