you need to let your doctor induce you-once you go past your due date--the placenta stops filtering out toxins--they can get to and harm baby worse than any inducing meds.

The placenta does not stop filtering toxins. This is a ridiculous notion.
The due date is not some magic thing that changes everything that's happening in the uterus of a healthy woman. In fact, the phrase "due date" is not used in midwifery or obstetrics, instead "estimated due date" is the terminology used because a.) no one can know exactly when conception took place and b.) the "textbook" length of a pregnancy is solely based upon an average -- and one that's quite old, at that.
Statistically, the *average* length of first pregnancy is actually 41 weeks, 1 day -- a duration which is rapidly shrinking *only* because so many practitioners routinely induce patients who don't know that they can refuse, or who aren't given the full truth of what induction entails or are outright lied to about its necessity within days of their estimated due date.
Medical induction is very often the first step in what's referred to as the "cascade of interventions" which lead straight down a path to c-section, which every woman should endeavor to avoid. Before taking that step, please be very well informed about what is at stake.

No, but you should listen to the recommendations of your Dr. the longer you go the bigger the baby gets and sometimes the risk of the baby being carried past the due date is that the baby will start to have bowel movements which could be dangerous to the baby and you. But consult with your Dr and family. The inducer sucks, but its always better to safe than sorry. Wishing you the best!

Carrying the baby this far over the due date is dangerous. The uterine conditions deteriorate rapidly after the 40th week. The placenta weakens and doesn't carry the amount of oxygen and nutrients your baby needs, and women who carry this far past their due dates have an increased risk of having a stillborn. Go in and get induced. They do not use drugs, they use a synthetic form of the hormone you make naturally. Personally, I wouldn't risk it: having a stillborn isn't worth it.

At this point it would be better for you to have labor induced. There are many reasons for this including the break down of your placenta, the baby running out of room. I really think you should be induced asap.

If you're not already in labor or had baby by now try sex. That's the best natural inducer.3 weeks overdue that's getting dangerous for you both...your choice ...but make sure you get a fetal monitor ASAP so you can get a peace of mind.

id becarful...go for regular stress tests, the longer u wait the bigger the baby gets and the less room he/she has...and that can cause problems...some women need the jumpstart...id ask your doctor for natural ways to induce labour...i know that sex is one of the best ways, but there r also teas u can drink and go for walks(not to far, stay close to home) rock on a yago ball it will open up your pelvic area and may help with dialating...i wish i could help more...i took the drugs after 10days...Good Luck 2 U

I would do what i think is best for my baby. But, speak to your doctor first before taking any advice from strangers on a web site.

i wouldnt stress it to much if the baby is active and you feel fine. it could be you really are that over due, or it could be a miscalculation of dates, or it could be the baby just isn't quite ready. i was close to 4 weeks over with my 2nd. i have a friend who is currently 47 weeks(very sure of dates).
it happens, its not as big a deal as docs make it out to be.
being induced increases your risk of csection greatly.
