I've had mostly good experiences with them myself. I have heard that Chiropractors are illegal in France, though I'm not sure if that is true. I have gotten the most pain relief from acupuncture.

I sure as hell wouldn't call them "witch doctors". I think the theory behind chiropractors is a good one, but I personally don't like the way a lot of them do it. A lot of them want you to come once or twice a week, and you go in, they roughly adjust your back, and then you leave. I did this for a long time, but I decided that they put the bones back in place, but don't do anything to keep them there. I think it makes your bones more likely to get out of place. This is all just my experience though. I do know that there are many different ways to practice chiropractic, so some might do it in a better way. I think it's a good thing if you get in an accident and you hurt, 'cause you get smacked out of place, so they smack you back into place. A chiropractor that relaxes you first and is really careful might be good for you.

I guess there is a lot of contraversay about whether to go to a Chiropractor or not. Some think that some of their practices can actually cause problems, or even snap your neck, others have had good experiences with Chiropractors and their back problems are helped!
They give you exercises to do, and adjust you perhaps once a week, it's a good idea if you really are suffering with pain. Worth a try anyways. You could tell them in advance that you do not want them to "crack" your neck, and that they should use another method around your neck.
Good Luck and this site may help you!

Chiropractors are far from being witch doctors. The will help find the trigger points to counter the pain. No sense in living in pain and on medication and seeking any means to numb the pain walking around like a zombie state in need of rehab. Try all different mean to attack the pain holistically and don't let the pain defeat you. Good Luck.

I have herniated disks and degenerative disk disease. I have used a chiropractor. I also have been hurt very badly by them. Make sure that if you do use one. Check them out as far as patient recommendations. They should take an x ray. If you can not be adjusted the do have other treatments besides adjustment. Discuss this with the chiropractor before you decide which treatment you need. or choose. I dont use one now. But I do take hot baths very often for pain relief. epsom salts help.

I've had good experiences with chiropractors, i.e. pain relief, and a lot less back trouble than I used to have.
You may also find that your general health will improve, not just your back.
Some people also claim that chiropractic improves mental health.
Chiropractors are not witch doctors, but their view of how the body works is a little different to that of conventional practitioners.
(For myself, I wouldn't write "witch doctors" off too soon. Some are able to produce results that are of real benefit to the patient.)
